Sao Bar & B.B.Q: Reviews & Ratings
Amazing place! The decor/interior design is really funky and awesome, great vibes. Food was amazing also, really high quality meat and they had this green sauce that I’ve never had anywhere else that was delicious with the grilled meat.
You get to grill your own meats to perfection, and the variety of options is great. The drinks complement the meal beautifully, making it a fun and interactive dining experience. The vibe is lively, and the staff is friendly. Definitely a spot worth trying for BBQ enthusiasts.
Absolutely loved this place! Went twice and still can’t get enough. The kimchi soup was the star — vibrant red broth, packed with layers of flavor from the tangy kimchi, tender vegetables, soft tofu, and a hint of spice that warms you right through. It arrived bubbling hot in a beautiful metal pot, making it both comforting and visually inviting. The service was attentive, the BBQ options looked amazing, and the atmosphere was cozy yet lively. Definitely a must-try
Just a little bit loud. Maybe I’m the only one but I find comfort in quiet, the music can be turned down like 3 times, literally just a little bit. The raw sound of every group having their conversations or just silence with light music is fine. Everything else was amazing. $108 for 1 serving? But it’s high quality waygu, I’m not a big eater so it fine. The drinks are also reasonably priced for the city. Would definitely recommend
A stroll through the streets of Melbourne landed us here at Sao Bar & BBQ. The atmosphere was inviting and we got in pretty early so it was very quiet. The food was great and reasonably priced, but the service felt a little absent (perhaps early into the shift). Did not expect to be listening to Taylor Swift and K-pop Demon Hunters over the audio (but I wasn't mad about it, to be fair!). Definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for some Korean BBQ :)
I am a regular guest at this establishment and I can always say that Def food and drinks never let me down. Incredible Wagyu oysters fried rice so cocktails. It’s a must try if you haven’t already tried it.
I just had dined here at Sao Bar & BBQ and was thoroughly impressed. The BBQ meats, fried rice, kimchi pancake, and fried chicken were all exceptional—flavorful and perfectly cooked. The service was attentive, and the ambiance inviting. Highly recommend for a memorable meal in Melbourne.
This Asian fusion barbecue and bar is open from 6pm to 5am almost daily. Located in the official Koreatown, the vibe does not stop and the food is quite good. This is what we had: Australian Wagyu Set for 2 ($138) - this set had really good quality wagyu, the marbling on the meat pieces were really pretty. The pieces were also very tender and tasted nice paired with the sauces. Wagyu Fried Rice ($22) - we really enjoyed the flavour of this fried rice. It was pretty good with the grilled wagyu. Wagyu Budae Jjigae ($28) - this is honestly so perfect for the cold weather. It actually came with a lot inside of the soup and it was pretty delicious. Corn Cheese ($18) Pale Ale ($16) Japanese Maple ($20) Coke Zero ($4) I highly recommend going for the food & the vibes! We really liked the quality of the food & the drinks were pretty good too.
